The 5 best resume tailoring tools in 2026, ranked by how much of the work they actually do

I'm M, and I make one of the tools below, so read this knowing that. "Tailoring" means five different things across these five products, from a keyword list you work through by hand to a finished document written for the posting. This list ranks them by how much of that work the tool does for you and whether you can trust what comes out. Prices and features are from each product's own pages (September 2026), with the source on each comparison page.

In short

  1. 1.Airtight: One finished resume and cover letter per posting, written from your history and checked against it.
  2. 2.Huntr: Rewrites you accept or reject one by one, with a match score, inside a strong tracker.
  3. 3.Kickresume: Paste the posting and the AI rewrites your existing resume toward it, with the widest template choice.
  4. 4.Jobscan: The most detailed keyword report against a posting, with an optimizer that inserts what is missing.
  5. 5.Teal: A free keyword matcher and unlimited builder; you do the tailoring by hand.

How the ranking was made

Five things, weighted, and the weights are mine. The biggest one is whether the tool hands you a finished resume for the posting or a to-do list. The second is whether anything checks the result against your history, because a tailored line you cannot back up in the interview is worse than no line. If you would rather keep your own resume and just patch keywords into it, Jobscan and Teal move up and I say so below.

  • 35%

    Writes for the posting

Does it produce a finished resume and cover letter for this posting, or a keyword list and suggestions you assemble yourself?

  • 25%

    True to your history

Is the result checked back against what you actually did, so a tailored line is one you can defend?

  • 20%

    Keyword match

How well the finished document covers the posting's keywords and structure, and whether you can see the gaps.

  • 10%

    Effort per application

How many minutes from pasting the posting to a document you would send.

  • 10%

    Price per tailored resume

What a month of tailoring costs, and how many tailored resumes the free plan really gives you.

  1. 1

    Airtight

Best for: One finished resume and cover letter per posting, written from your history and checked against it.

    See how it works

    What it does

    • Paste the posting and the resume and cover letter are written for it in about two minutes, in the posting's own words, every line traceable to something in your history.
    • The finished documents are read back against your history. A claim you could not defend is flagged; a gap in your history is named, not filled.
    • Keyword coverage and structure are checked on the document you will send, not on a draft.
    • Any bullet can be tightened in one click, and every example you add is kept for the next posting.

Where it is not the pick

It writes the whole document, so if you want to keep your existing resume and only patch keywords into it, Jobscan's optimizer or Teal's matcher are closer to that. Three complete applications free, then a paid plan.

    Price
$29 a month or $69 a quarter. One plan with everything in it.
    Free tier
3 complete applications free, no card: fit check, resume, cover letter and prep sheet for each. The fit check on any posting is free and does not count.
  2. 2

    Huntr

Best for: Rewrites you accept or reject one by one, with a match score, inside a strong tracker.

    Airtight vs Huntr, in detail

Where it is the better choice

    • The Resume Tailor pulls keywords, qualifications and responsibilities from the posting and suggests rewrites; you accept or reject each one, so you stay in control of every line.
    • A Job Match Score across keywords, qualifications and responsibilities shows where you stand before and after.
    • The tailored resume lands in the best-known job tracker, with contacts, documents and a timeline.

    Claims checked against your history?

Huntr says the tailor rephrases what you did and does not invent. There is no separate check of the finished document against your history.

    Price
Pro is $40 a month, $90 every three months or $160 every six months. No weekly or yearly plan. No free trial.
    Free tier
Unlimited base resumes with free PDF export, two tailored resumes in total, tracking for up to 100 jobs, the clipper, autofill and unlimited contacts.
  3. 3

    Kickresume

Best for: Paste the posting and the AI rewrites your existing resume toward it, with the widest template choice.

    Airtight vs Kickresume, in detail

Where it is the better choice

    • Paste the posting and the AI rewrites your resume using what is already in it, aimed at the posting's keywords.
    • Forty-plus designed templates and a personal website, so the tailored result also looks the part.
    • The lowest yearly price of the group: $96 a year on the annual plan.

    Claims checked against your history?

The tailoring says it uses only what is in your resume. There is no separate check that reads the result back against your history.

    Price
Premium is $24 a month, $54 every three months or $96 a year. No weekly plan.
    Free tier
Four basic templates, unlimited downloads without a watermark, one resume tailoring, basic cover letter generation.
  4. 4

    Jobscan

Best for: The most detailed keyword report against a posting, with an optimizer that inserts what is missing.

    Airtight vs Jobscan, in detail

Where it is the better choice

    • The Match Rate report breaks the posting into hard skills, soft skills, title and education and scores your resume against each; it is the most detailed keyword view of the four.
    • AI Optimize takes your resume as it is and inserts the skills the posting asks for.
    • Five scans a month are free, enough to check a resume you tailored elsewhere.

    Claims checked against your history?

No. The optimizer adds missing skills; nothing checks that the result is true to what you did.

    Price
Premium is $49.95 a month or $89.95 every three months (with a seven-day trial on the quarterly plan). Auto Apply credits are extra beyond two a month.
    Free tier
Five scans a month with a condensed report, the job tracker and the resume builder with free download.
  5. 5

    Teal

Best for: A free keyword matcher and unlimited builder; you do the tailoring by hand.

    Airtight vs Teal, in detail

Where it is the better choice

    • The Job Matcher shows which of the posting's keywords your resume has and which it is missing; you add them, or have AI write a bullet for one keyword.
    • Unlimited resumes and downloads on the free plan, with ten templates.
    • The tracker, contacts and email templates are free alongside it.

    Claims checked against your history?

No. The match is keyword based; nothing verifies that a line is true to your history.

    Price
    Teal+ is $13 a week, $29 a month or $79 a quarter. No yearly plan is published.
    Free tier
Unlimited resumes and job tracking, ten templates, the top five keywords per posting, and a handful of AI credits (five bullets, two cover letters).
